VR for Salesforce - Installation

To add the VR app to your Salesforce org, simply follow these installation and customization steps. If you don't have a VerticalResponse account yet don't worry, we'll give you the opportunity to set one up once you've installed the app. One thing to note, you need to be a Salesforce Admin to do any kind of install from AppExchange.

1. Visit the AppExchange

  • Go to the VerticalResponse listing on’s AppExchange.
  • Click Get It Now
  • Provide your contact information and click Submit
  • Enter your Salesforce Username, Password and select whether you’re a Salesforce Administrator, Salesforce User or a Free 30 Day Trial User. When finished, click on Continue.
  • Designate if you would like to install the app in your Production (including Developer Edition) or if applicable, in to your Sandbox. Once you’ve read through’s Terms of Service, click on Continue.

2. Set Users, Review Package Components, and Install

Before installing, you’ll have the option to review all the components of VerticalResponse for Salesforce. The package name, version, and description will also be noted.

Install All Users

To view package components, click the link below the Users images that says View Components. You can also view the API Access information as well.

Select Admins only or All Users for an easy set-up, then click the Install button.

Install Profiles

While the option to add it to All Users is there, most admins will want to deploy to only certain users. For this option select Install for Select Profiles, then scroll down and select the users allowed access to the app.

Install Find Profiles

Once you’ve selected the correct Profiles, click Install.

There’s a lot of info to be added with this install, so you may see screens like these:

Install Done

Almost done! You’ve now completed the initial installation of VerticalResponse for AppExchange and you'll see a summary screen that displays the application details. And VerticalResponse now appears in the AppExchange drop-down menu in the upper right-hand corner of your account.

3. Completing the Installation and Exposing Custom Objects

Now that the application has been installed you'll need to deploy the Custom Object components or choose to customize them first before rolling them out.

In order to see email reporting on your Leads and Contacts you need to add the VR Messages custom object. Once this has been added, anyone who as access to the Lead/Contact can see what emails have been sent and how the person responded, without ever leaving Salesforce. The VR Messages object contains all the email data, this one is pretty important to use. The VR Lists object tracks the lists the Lead/Contact is attached to, but no email data. This one is optional to add and use.

To add the VR objects to the Leads and contacts follow these steps for both Leads and Contacts.

Go to Setup -> Customize -> Leads -> Page Layouts

VR Related Lists

Select the Layout to edit and then under Related Lists find the two VR objects, VR Lists (if you want to use it) and VR Message Recipients (the most important one) and drag them to the Lead Detail section below. Set them up where you want them to be, you can move them around as you like.

Once it’s where you want it you’ll need to add the fields you want to see to it. Click the wrench icon at the top of the object to bring up the list of options.

Related Lists Properties
You can add anything you like from the list, just click the name and then the right arrow. If you change your mind, just click the name and the left arrow to remove it from the list. We recommend using these fields for VR Messages:

  • Message Name
  • Open Date
  • Links Clicked
  • Hard Bounce
  • Unsubscribed
  • Message Status

After you’ve selected the fields you want click Ok at the bottom to save them.

If you’re using the VR List object click the wrench and add VR List and Created date. Those are the two most useful fields for this object. Click Ok to add the fields.

Click Save in the top left corner to save all the changes you’ve made. You’ll now see the VR objects on your Leads.

Once this is set up, do these same steps for Contacts, choosing Contacts instead of Leads in the steps.
